SUMMARY
This document shows how to force outlook express to use pop-before-smtp authentication. Outlook Express should by default work properly with pop-before-smtp authentication but at times it will not reissue it's smtp authentication before sending.
DETAILS
Please follow the steps listed below.
- Open up Outlook Express
- Goto "Tools" -> "Accounts"
- Select your email account from the list and click the properties button.
- Goto the "Servers" tab.
- Towards the bottom under "Outgoing mail server", check the box next to "My server requires authentication".
- You can leave the details under the "settings button" unchanged, or if you go into the settings make sure "use same settings as incoming mail server" is selected.
- Click "Ok"
- Click "Close"
You can then continue to use Outlook Express as you regularly would.
MORE INFORMATION
This setting configures Outlook Express to re-authenticate to your POP or IMAP account, which authenticates your access to our SMTP server.
